What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants, a sought-after solution at our Staten Island dental practice, offer an effective way to replace missing or irreparable teeth that cannot be repaired by restorative dentistry treatments. They are artificial tooth roots, typically made of titanium, that are surgically placed into the jawbone beneath the gums, providing a sturdy foundation for replacement teeth or bridges. Once in place, these implants naturally fuse with the jawbone over time, offering stability and support for artificial teeth while mimicking the function and appearance of natural teeth. In the final step, after the abutment is placed, dental implants are often used in combination with custom-made dental crowns to complete the restoration process.

What Makes Our Dental Implants Special?
What sets our dental implants apart is the unique and comprehensive approach we offer at our Staten Island dental practice. Dr. Cipriano, unlike many general dentists, personally performs the entire dental implant surgery from start to finish. This means that, in contrast to the common practice of referring patients to a separate surgeon, Dr. Cipriano utilizes modern technology and expertise to seamlessly handle every aspect of the implant process right here in our practice. By keeping the end result in mind—how the implant will look and feel in your mouth—Dr. Cipriano ensures a personalized and precise outcome. Our commitment to overseeing the entire procedure, coupled with our extensive experience, guarantees results that not only meet but exceed expectations. Trust in our expertise for dental implants that provide both functional and aesthetic benefits, ultimately delivering a smile you will truly love.

Why Should You Choose Dental Implants?

Experience the freedom of enjoying your favorite foods without worry and the confidence of a beautifully restored smile. Dental implants offer a range of benefits such as:

Enhanced Chewing Ability

Dental implants provide a stable and secure foundation, allowing you to chew and bite with confidence. Unlike traditional dentures, implants function like natural teeth, restoring your ability to enjoy a varied and wholesome diet.

Improved Speech

Missing teeth can impact speech clarity, but dental implants help restore natural speech patterns. With a secure and stable fit, you can communicate with confidence, eliminating concerns about slippage or discomfort often associated with removable dentures.

Natural Aesthetics

Dental implants closely resemble natural teeth in both appearance and feel. They are custom-designed to match your existing teeth, ensuring a seamless integration that enhances your smile's aesthetics and boosts your overall self-confidence.

Long-Term Oral Health

Unlike traditional bridges that may require alterations to adjacent teeth, dental implants preserve surrounding natural teeth. This contributes to long-term oral health by maintaining the integrity of your existing dentition. Additionally, implants stimulate the jawbone, preventing bone loss and preserving facial structure over time.

Who Are Dental Implants For?

Dental implants offer an effective solution for tooth loss correction, but their suitability varies for each individual. The key lies in the initial consultation and evaluation process, where we assess the condition of the teeth, gums, and jawbone using 3D x-rays. This thorough examination is crucial to ensure the implants' "roots" can be securely placed.

While dental implants are often the preferred option, there are instances where other alternatives, such as bridges or dentures, might be more suitable due to the individual's overall oral health. At our practice, we prioritize our patients' well-being and honesty, providing transparent recommendations that prioritize health and happiness over financial considerations.

“Dr. Cipriano is the absolute best dentist with an amazing staff! They truly care about your experience in and out of the office. They know who we are when we walk in, and make us feel like we are part of the family. After a long road of genetic dental issues and quick fixes from other providers, my daughter did not smile with her mouth open until Dr. Cipriano worked his magic on her smile. He listened to her, was patient, kind and would not finish the job until HE, was completely satisfied that my daughter was happy. It might seem like a little thing, but finally seeing my daughter smile with her teeth showing has made a world of difference for this mom. The BEST of the BEST! Thank you Healthy Smiles of Staten Island”

“I grew up in SI & now live in FL. Even w/ that I have never changed my dentist. I go quarterly for cleanings. But here is why you should go here; I just flew up for Christmas, On 12/22 I needed a full root canal, typically multiple visits. Knowing I live in FL Dr. C stayed & completed the whole job, including using amazing technology to print a crown, in 1 visit. It was unreal. I had no pain & was at dinner in NYC that evening for a Christmas party.  Every person there is super nice, helpful, etc. Hands down, I will fly from FL to Newark just for an appointment here in SI. That’s how good they are, which I know sounds crazy.  But it’s worth it! If you live in Ny or Nj clearly the best dentist in the area.”

What Is the Dental Implant Procedure Step-By-Step?

Dr. Cipriano, with daily expertise in implant procedures, handles a spectrum of cases—from single tooth replacements to full-mouth implant procedures. With versatility and precision, he leverages modern technology and a digital approach to guarantee the accuracy of each implant, ensuring a successful and permanent final result. In simplified terms, the process typically unfolds as follows:

The tooth or teeth to be replaced will be pulled (if they’re not missing already).
A bone graft is performed to ensure there is a strong foundation for the implant to be anchored.
The dental implant is placed into the jawbone, acting as the “root” for the new tooth that will be mounted to it.
Finally, the permanent tooth will be mounted to the abutment (or connecting rod) of the implant.

Here’s a more detailed rundown of the final steps.

Once the dental implant has been placed, a metal healing cap is placed on the end of the implant where the new tooth will eventually go. Then, we give the jawbone time to heal, allowing the bone to fuse to the implanted metal post.

After the jawbone has healed and fused to the implant, an abutment is placed on the implant. This is the base for the new tooth. A 3D scan of the abutment is made and used to mold the new tooth.

When complete, you’ll visit us again, and we’ll place the crown and finish the implant.

It might sound like a lot, but for Dr. Cipriano, it’s a walk in the implant park. The entire procedure is generally done in just four visits at our office at our Staten Island dental office located at 142 Annadale Rd. Staten Island, NY 10312

How Much Do Dental Implants Cost?

One of the biggest questions we get from our clients is “how much do dental implants cost?”. In fact, that question is more common than questions like “do dental implants hurt?”, or even “what is the success rate of dental implants?” We get it. Price is an important consideration. After all, we have families to provide for. We understand that for most people, cost is the most important part of the procedure to know. While you might have concerns over the upfront cost of implants, the real secret is that they just might be more cost-effective than you think and even considered an investment.

On the surface, implants can appear to be incredibly expensive, especially when compared to other tooth replacement methods like dentures or bridges. However, if you look further, the cost-effectiveness begins to shine through.

Dentures and bridges, the two alternatives to implants, typically have to be repaired or replaced every 5 to 10 years. This ends up costing more money in the long run than getting implants that last a lifetime when properly cared for. In addition to long-term savings, they also provide better long-term health because they prevent the bone loss that comes from a lack of roots in the jaw. Bridges and dentures can’t do this.

Dental implants are becoming more and more common, and they’re necessary in many cases. Unfortunately, most insurance companies still don’t cover them, or at least, they don’t cover them fully. However, you can finance your implants over time without the burden of paying one lump sum upfront.
